Who are we?
Dutchbricks is an active LEGO® association that was officially founded in the Netherlands on 23 December 2015. What started as a group of passionate builders has grown into a thriving community with 169 members (September 2025), ranging from young enthusiasts to experienced AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO).
Our mission is clear: Building inspiration, education and fun together.
Dutchbricks wants to connect people through creativity, collaboration and a shared passion for LEGO®. We organise events, encourage knowledge sharing and are committed to social and educational projects. Whether you build for yourself, with your family or for an audience, at Dutchbricks you will find a place where your ideas come to life.
Since December 2022, we have been recognised as an RLUG (Recognised LEGO User Group) within the international LEGO Ambassador Network. This recognition confirms our active role within the global LEGO community and opens doors for collaboration and support from LEGO itself.
In addition, we have an official E2+ eHerkenning, a Dutch digital identification tool that allows us to communicate securely and professionally with government agencies and service providers. This enables us, for example, to apply for subsidies and to strongly establish our social role as an association.

Our history
Dutchbricks was founded on 23 December 2015 by a group of enthusiastic LEGO® builders with a shared dream: to build an association centred on creativity, collaboration and visibility. The first meetings in the autumn of 2015 laid the foundation for a solid structure, with a board, articles of association and a clear mission.
The early years (2015–2017)
In the early years, Dutchbricks grew steadily:
-
The association took shape with working groups and a membership administration;
-
Club days and small-scale exhibitions were organised;
-
The first ideas for a large public event emerged: Bricktopia.
Growth and consolidation (2018–2019)
Dutchbricks began to establish itself as an active player in the Dutch LEGO community:
-
Bricktopia became a recurring event and attracted more and more visitors;
-
Collaborations with schools, museums and municipalities got underway;
-
The internal organisation was strengthened with clear roles and communication channels;
-
Membership numbers rose, and the association began to prepare for RLUG recognition.
Professionalisation and recognition (2020–2022)
Despite the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, Dutchbricks remained active:
-
Online communication and digital tools such as Jumperplate were introduced;
-
Investments were made in structure, regulations and transparency;
-
In January 2020, Patrick de Klerk took office as chairman, with a clear focus on growth and professionalisation;
-
In December 2022, Dutchbricks was officially recognised as an RLUG (Recognised LEGO User Group) within the international LEGO Ambassador Network.
Digital reinforcement and social impact (2023–2025)
-
Dutchbricks was awarded an E2+ eHerkenning, enabling secure and professional communication with government agencies and service providers;
-
The internal webshop, member portal and WhatsApp community were further expanded;
-
Work was done on a clear code of conduct, an active disciplinary committee and a transparent communication culture;
-
Bricktopia grew into an event with national appeal, and Dutchbricks is increasingly being approached for collaborations.
-
In September 2025, Dutchbricks has 169 members and has grown into a mature association with a strong social and educational mission.
Acknowledgements
Dutchbricks is proud of the acknowledgements we have received — both internationally and nationally. They confirm our active role within the LEGO community and our professional position as an association in the Netherlands.
🌍 RLUG status
Since December 2022, Dutchbricks has been officially recognised as a Recognised LEGO User Group (RLUG) within the international LEGO Ambassador Network. This status gives us access to support from LEGO, participation in global initiatives and a voice within the wider LEGO fan community.
🇳🇱 E2+ eHerkenning
Dutchbricks also has E2+ eHerkenning, an official Dutch login method that allows us to communicate securely and reliably with more than 600 service providers — from local authorities and the UWV to the Tax and Customs Administration and insurers. Thanks to this recognition, we can professionally process sensitive information such as subsidy applications and member data and strongly establish our social role as an association.
